Its ultra-low-noise digital output stage and jitter-free signal transfer ensure your CDs sound exactly as they were intended. Paired with a high-quality DAC, the DD35 transforms digital signals into a richly detailed and lifelike audio experience.

Technology

The DD35’s technology revolves around simplicity and precision. A discrete power supply minimizes noise, while the TEAC drive provides flawless disc reading. Its modular design makes it a perfect partner for Primare’s Prisma-enabled models, such as the PRE35 preamplifier and I35 integrated amplifier. However, the DD35 is equally at home in any system where high-quality CD playback is a priority.

Versatility and Compatibility

The DD35 seamlessly integrates into your audio system with RCA and Toslink digital outputs. Whether you’re adding it to a Primare modular setup or connecting it to your existing DAC, the DD35 adapts to your needs while maintaining a compact footprint that fits effortlessly into most configurations.

DD35 Power Supply Architecture

The DD35 employs a carefully engineered dual-stage power supply designed specifically for the demands of high-fidelity digital audio extraction. A custom linear power supply provides a dedicated, isolated feed to the digital output stage, ensuring extremely low noise at the point where signal integrity matters most. A separate switch-mode standby supply handles housekeeping duties when the unit is not in active playback, and this standby supply is automatically turned off during playback to eliminate any potential switching noise from reaching the audio circuits. This on-demand power delivery architecture means the DD35 draws just 0.5W in standby and 12W during operation, combining audiophile-grade performance with responsible energy consumption.

TEAC CD 5020A-AT Drive Mechanism

At the heart of the DD35 sits the TEAC CD 5020A-AT, a tray-loading drive mechanism engineered specifically for high-end audio applications. Unlike slot-load mechanisms used in more compact players, this full-size tray loader provides precise, smooth loading with low clamp noise, minimizing mechanical disturbance during disc reading. The drive incorporates an internal I2S and S/PDIF digital audio interface combined with buffered memory, which reduces jitter to negligible levels before the signal reaches the output stage. The isolated transport mounting further decouples the drive from external vibrations, ensuring that the laser tracking remains stable and accurate throughout playback. The result is a digital signal of exceptional purity, ready for conversion by whatever DAC you choose to pair with it.

Digital Output Stage and Connectivity

The DD35's digital output stage receives its own discrete, isolated power supply feed, separate from the drive mechanism's supply. This isolation is a key factor in achieving the ultra-low noise floor that distinguishes the DD35 from more conventional transports. Both the coaxial RCA and optical Toslink outputs deliver a 16-bit/44.1kHz PCM signal with minimal jitter, giving you the choice of connection type to suit your DAC's strengths. The coaxial output typically provides the most robust electrical connection for short cable runs, while the optical output offers complete galvanic isolation between transport and DAC, which can be beneficial in systems where ground loops are a concern. The DD35 supports CD, CD-R, and CD-RW disc formats, ensuring full compatibility with both pressed and recordable media.

Primare CD35 & DD35 Video

Primare's Terry Medalen presents the CD35 modular CD player and DD35 CD transport, highlighting the state-of-the-art TEAC drive, reference balanced DAC stage, and how the DD35 provides a dedicated transport option with digital outputs.

Explore More Primare Products

Complete your 35 Series system with these companion components:

Primare I35

Primare PRE35

Primare A35.2

Primare A35.8

Primare R35

Primare CD35

The Listening Room Difference

We're a third-generation family business with a brick-and-mortar showroom in Chestertown, Maryland, and a reputation built on trust, not hype.
