The cartridge's design rejects conventional elements like a steel suspension system (tie wire) and a foam damper, which are common in many moving coil cartridges. By eliminating these components, Rega has successfully removed potential sources of high-frequency resonance and unwanted vibration. This unique approach allows the generator to move with a remarkable freedom, resulting in a sound that is exceptionally clear, with a tight, controlled bass and smooth, extended treble.

Design and Construction

The physical construction of the Aphelion 2 is a testament to precision engineering. The single-piece body is crafted from graded zero tolerance anodised aluminium, ensuring a perfectly rigid and non-resonant housing. This jointless design provides a stable platform for the delicate internal components, including a meticulously hand-wound micro-cross and coil assembly. The entire structure is designed to be lightweight yet incredibly strong, allowing the cartridge to perform with maximum accuracy and minimal interference.

The Pursuit of Perfection

The Aphelion 2 is the culmination of Rega's extensive research into moving coil technology. Its advanced design, featuring a Boron cantilever and a fine line nude diamond stylus, allows it to trace the most intricate musical passages with breathtaking realism. When paired with a high-end tonearm, the Aphelion 2 delivers a listening experience that is both analytical and emotionally engaging. It is a true reference product, designed to reveal every nuance and texture of the recording, making it the perfect choice for the most discerning audiophile.

Rega's Three-Point Fixing

Rega cartridges use the company's proprietary three-point fixing rather than the universal two-bolt mount. On a Rega tonearm that makes fitting a direct bolt-on job, with overhang set automatically by the mount itself instead of by protractor. It is the reason a Rega cartridge is the simplest upgrade path for a Rega turntable. A universal-mount cartridge, Hana included, goes on any arm but has to be aligned the long way round.

The Listening Room Difference

We’re a third-generation family business with a brick-and-mortar showroom in Chestertown, Maryland, and a reputation built on trust, not hype.
