The Goldring Ethos SE Moving Coil Cartridge is a special edition of the acclaimed Ethos model, positioned at the top of Goldring's moving coil range. Combining advanced engineering with exclusive features, the Ethos SE delivers precise sound reproduction, making it an excellent choice for audiophiles seeking enhanced detail and clarity for a wide range of turntables.
Key Features
- Pure Silver Coils: Fewer windings with higher conductivity reduce tip mass and internal impedance for improved tracking and transient response.
- Low-Mass Cross-Armature Core: Made from Swedish iron, enhancing channel separation and producing a realistic soundstage.
- Line-Contact Diamond Stylus: Features a polyhedral, line-contact diamond stylus with a 35 x 8 µm radius for enhanced high-frequency response and minimized distortion.
- Low-Reluctance Pole Shoes: Ensure smooth and extended frequency response through an exclusive manufacturing process.
- Aircraft-Grade Aluminum Body: Low-resonance, anodized aluminum offers superior rigidity and durability.
Design and Build
The Ethos SE is housed in an aircraft-grade aluminum body, selected for its low density and high resistance to fatigue. This robust construction minimizes unwanted vibrations, ensuring stable performance. The pure silver coils feature fewer windings and higher conductivity, reducing tip mass and internal impedance. Additionally, the low-mass cross-armature core made from Swedish iron enhances channel separation, contributing to a more expansive and accurate soundstage.
Performance
Equipped with a line-contact diamond stylus, the Ethos SE excels in tracing fine groove details with precision. The narrow, low tip-mass design ensures superior high-frequency detail retrieval while minimizing distortion. The pure silver coils and low-reluctance pole shoes work together to deliver a smooth and extended frequency response, particularly excelling in the upper registers. This combination results in a detailed and immersive listening experience, comparable to higher-priced moving coil cartridges.
Versatility and Compatibility
The Goldring Ethos SE requires a dedicated moving coil phono input and performs best with a light to medium mass tonearm. Whether upgrading an existing cartridge or enhancing an obsolete system, the Ethos SE provides a versatile solution for achieving exceptional vinyl playback.
