Magnepan 20.7x Planar Magnetic Speakers; pair

The Magnepan 20.7x is a three-way planar magnetic floorstanding speaker that builds on the 20.7 with the full X-Series treatment: rebuilt crossovers, upgraded capacitors, tighter-tolerance coils, and silver-soldered connections throughout. The driver technology stays the same (True Ribbon tweeter, quasi-ribbon midrange and bass), but every component in the signal path has been rethought and rebuilt.

Magnepan 20.7x Key Features

• True Ribbon Tweeter: Ultra-light aluminum ribbon delivers silky, extended high frequencies with extraordinary clarity.
• Quasi-Ribbon Drivers: Low-mass Mylar diaphragms ensure responsive and accurate midrange and bass performance.
• X Series Component Upgrades: Enhanced capacitors, inductors, wiring, and connections minimize distortion and improve fidelity.
• Balanced Crossover Design: Simplified circuitry and precise matching create clean integration and smooth frequency transitions.
• Dipole Radiation: Produces a natural, room-filling soundstage with reduced floor and ceiling reflections.

Design and Build

The Magnepan 20.7x builds on the iconic design of the original 20.7, maintaining its sleek, boxless aesthetic while integrating the X-Series upgrades throughout. High-quality copper-rich capacitors, air-core inductors, and silver soldered connections reduce signal loss and distortion, ensuring a cleaner, more precise sound.

Optimized wiring paths and reduced mass in the circuit design further enhance signal purity, while gilded components and tight-tolerance testing ensure perfect balance between the left and right channels. The quasi-ribbon midrange and bass drivers, paired with the True Ribbon tweeter, deliver a cohesive sound that faithfully reproduces every detail of the original recording.

The Magnepan 20.7x EXperience

The 20.7x delivers a level of realism and immersion that surpasses its predecessor. Enhanced imaging and sound-staging create a three-dimensional soundscape that puts you in the middle of the music. Highs are airier and more detailed, mids are richer and more articulate, and bass is tighter and more precise.

The X-Series upgrades reduce distortion and improve tonal balance across the frequency spectrum. Whether you're listening to the delicate nuances of a string quartet or the powerful dynamics of a full orchestra, the 20.7x captures every emotion and texture with striking clarity.

Inside the Magnepan 20.7x: X-Series Technology

The ultra-light aluminum ribbon tweeter delivers extended high frequencies with speed and accuracy, while the quasi-ribbon midrange and bass drivers provide responsive and natural sound across the rest of the spectrum.

The X upgrades introduce copper-rich polypropylene capacitors, precision-matched inductors, and silver soldered connections to the crossover design. Simplified circuits and higher-grade components reduce distortion and ensure tight tonal balance between channels. The result is a speaker system built for fidelity with no shortcuts in the signal path.

Adding a Subwoofer

If you want more low-end weight in larger rooms, a fast, musical subwoofer extends the bottom end without dragging on the panel's speed. We most often pair Magnepan with REL and Perlisten subwoofers, since both keep up with a planar's quickness rather than fighting it.
